Fall 2023

In late August the team at ACDC, Mike Cohen and Victoria from Energetics boarded a commuter rail and traveled from Worcester, Massachusetts to Boston. Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll held a press conference and many worthy businesses were presented with state contracts to help move us into a zero-carbon future. Here is the beginning of the press release:

“August 29, 2023

DORCHESTER — The Healey-Driscoll Administration today announced over $18 million in grants that will support an expanded clean energy workforce. Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll announced the awards alongside Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Rebecca Tepper, Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) Secretary Lauren Jones, Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) CEO Jennifer Deloisio and other officials at Pipefitters Local 537 in Dorchester. The awards, provided by the MassCEC, go to over 40 organizations that are focused on lowering barriers faced by underserved and underrepresented populations entering the clean energy workforce, introducing young people to clean energy careers, providing essential training for climate-critical fields, and supporting minority- and women-owned businesses entering and expanding in the clean energy sector. A strong, skilled, inclusive workforce is essential to achieving the Commonwealth’s climate goals in 2030 and 2050.”

ACDC was one of the over 40 recipients to receive a grant to prepare for us to deliver a two-week EV class to Massachusetts technicians that qualify. ACDC has partnered with Energetics (administration), Mike Cohen and Prodiags (consulting firms) to provide electric vehicle re-training to Massachusetts auto and truck technicians.  ACDC is a clean energy company and once the renewable electricity (solar, hydro and wind) are 100% of our energy, an electric vehicle (EV) will be close to zero carbon. Today it is about 25%. Vinyard Wind is being built now and will be the only large scale off shore wind in America. More will follow.

I worked closely with Victoria MaGarial at Energetics to put together a plan that would reach and exceed the goals of the MassCDC. I was fortunate to find Mike Cohen available after his retirement with VW/ Audi and Arto and Rudi from Prodiag (based in Finland) to work with us. We are expanding our existing training materials. Soon ACDC will have classes that can handle the increased technology advancements and produce more graduates of a two-week class called “Up Your Voltage” that ACDC created in 2006.

Looks like 2024 will be a fruitful year.
